VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - H1N1 shots have been available in Lowndes County since Monday but health officials say not many have gotten the vaccines.

The Lowndes County health department got 1,500 doses.

Through Tuesday, they'd only given 25 shots.

Health offiicals want people to know that the H1N1 vaccine is made just like the seasonal flu vaccine and is expected to be effective.

"We're just trying to get the message out there that it is here," said Courtney Sheeley of South Health District. "If you're in those five priority groups, you ought to take this time and get it while we still have it because so many districts throughout the state of Georgia are giving out very quickly."

The top priority groups include pregnant women, health care and emergency personnel, and anyone from 6-months to 24-years of age.
