Albany trauma specialist say most of the trauma cases they see result from car crashes, and too many of those crashes are caused by distracted drivers. Now they're spreading a message in honor of Trauma Awareness Month.More >>
ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Big crowds turned out at the Dougherty County Health Department where the injectable swine flu vaccine was given out Wednesday morning.
Two waiting rooms were at capacity while a line stretched out the door. This is the first time Dougherty County has administered the H1-N1 injectable vaccine.
Health officials say they're happy to see the response but are surprised at the huge early turnout.
"I thought it would be a great turn out, but I had no idea it would be as great of a turn out as we've seen already," said Suzette Profit of Dougherty County Public Health. "And we just opened 30 minutes ago."
Southwest Georgia Health District received 2,500 doses of the injectable vaccine Monday, of which 670 went to Dougherty County. The shots will be given to priority groups first.
The Dougherty County Health Department will be open until 7:00 Wednesday night and until 7:30 Thursday if the vaccinations are still available.
Health officials want people to know that is NOT necessary to bring a photo ID.
