ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Health officials in Dougherty County stocked their refrigerator with hundreds of doses of the H1-N1 shot vaccine Tuesday in anticipation of Wednesday morning's clinic.

Health officials say the phone has been ringing off the hook with calls from parents anxious to get their children the H1-N1 shot. Dougherty County will have more than 600 doses to administer starting Wednesday morning at 8:00.

LPN Suzette Profit says parents had been hesitant to get their children the flu mist vaccine until the number of deaths nationwide started to climb.

"I think people started to have a greater response to that after they started to see the total number of deaths and probably talking to individuals that received the LAIV and realized that there's not really many complications and their children have received it and had no problems," said Suzette Profit, Dougherty County Public Health.

The health department has fewer than 150 doses of the flu mist left. Health officials plan to keep late hours on Thursday until 7:30 PM allowing students and parents who work time to get their children immunized.
