SPARKS, GA (WALB) - A south Georgia police chief has been booked on criminal charges in Gwinnett County.

Chief Marty Stafford surrendered Friday after a Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

In September, Stafford was charged with false imprisonment, misdemeanor battery, and interfering with an emergency call.

A woman who had a relationship with Stafford said he tried to force his way into her apartment in Gwinnett County.

He's out of jail on bond and back in Sparks but his certification as Chief of Police has been suspended.
