ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany police officer, suspended after being arrested for simple battery against his wife, has resigned following his arrest for assault on his live-in girlfriend.

Jason Weaver was arrested Friday and charged with simple battery and making false statements. Dougherty County police say he assaulted Clarissa Bryant at the home they share on Community Avenue in August.

That was just two weeks after Weaver was arrested for assaulting his pregnant wife at their home on Churchill Road. Weaver had been with the Albany Police Department for about three years.
