(Flowery Branch-AP) -- Linebacker Keith Brooking, who could have become a free agent on next Friday, signed a contract today.
Chief administrative officer Ray Anderson said "We are excited about retaining Keith as member of the Falcons team. We were diligent in our efforts to retain Keith as a member of the Atlanta Falcons, and we are pleased that we were able to reach an agreement that reflects his value to the team while addressing future needs of the club."
Brooking was the Falcons' first round draft pick in 1998 out of Georgia Tech.
Last season, he was selected to his second consecutive Pro Bowl after setting a single-season career-high with 212 total tackles, the most by a Falcons player since linebacker Buddy Curry had 229 tackles in 1983.
Terms of the contract weren't immediately available.
