CARROLLTON, GA (WALB) - Valdosta State and West Georgia slugged it out in a defensive battle you would expect between these two rivals for three quarters until the Blazers scored 21 points in the 4th quarter to win 31-17.
The Wolves got on the scoreboard first with a field goal but David Arnold's touchdown plunge early in the second quarter gave the Blazers a 7-3 lead.
West Georgia's V.J. Hunt put the Wolves back in front with a 30-yard touchdown run on a reverse but Daniel Anderson's field goal on the final play of the half sent the teams into the locker rooms tied 10-10.
Valdosta State broke the tie early in the 4th quarter when Kellen Lewis threw over the middle to Gerald Ford. Ford did the rest for a 58-yard touchdown reception.
Cameo Holloway's 22-yard run with just over three minutes to play gave the Blazers some breathing room.
A late touchdown pass by the Wolves made it interesting but Kellen Lewis closed out the game with a 40-yard touchdown run in the final minute.
Valdosta State is 5-4 overall and 4-4 in the GSC.
Blazers close out the regular season next week at home against Edward Waters.
