A Turner county inmate got out of his handcuffs and attacked a jailer Thursday.
23-year-old Jose Galban-Venancio had a doctor's appointment in Tifton. On the way back to the Turner County jail on highway 41, the inmate slipped the handcuffs off, and opened the little window that separates the front and back seats.
The Sheriff says Galban-Venancia climbed through and started beating the officer, 64-year-old Charles Willingham. He pulled over.
The inmate jumped out of the car, but Willingham tackled him and got the handcuffs back. Galban-Venancio was in jail on armed robbery charges.
