Douglas, GA (WALB) -  A badly decomposed female body was found in a cotton field in Coffee County Thursday morning.

Stan Clough says the discovery was made by a farmer spraying in his cotton field near Highway 441 between Broxton and Pridgen. The GBI says the woman had been dead in the field for quite a while, possibly weeks.

GBI Agents spent several hours processing the scene for clues about who she is and what happened to her.

GBI agents say they could tell very little from the badly decomposed remains. The body is a woman, but they don't know her race or her cause of death. All that will be determined in an autopsy Friday morning.

Stan Clough said the farmer was "Shocked, very shocked to find something like this out in the field."

Agents say the woman's body could have been in the field anywhere from three days to several weeks. While we don't have any confirmation on the woman's identity, we have previously reported on a woman who escaped from a Coffee County correctional officer October 9th and is still missing.

Her name is Tina Davis and Clough told us that a couple of weeks ago, he discovered Davis' SUV in a cotton field not far from where the body was found.

Now there is no confirmation on whether this is the body of missing nurse Tina Davis. Investigators say it is odd because the car was located, but the canines didn't pick up any scent leading them to where she ran off to.

The GBI says dental records and DNA will have to be used to identify the body.
