ALBANY, GA (WALB) - In April, Water, Gas and Light employee Mitchell Sellars spotted a burning vehicle on 8 Mile Road, with the driver still inside.

As he pulled the driver out, the man's hair and clothing were on fire. Sellars took his own shirt off, and put the flames out.

Thursday, the Water, Gas and Light board recognized him for that self-less act.

"It's good to know that a lot of people just disregard their own safety in order to try to help somebody else," said WG&L Chair Mayor Willie Adams. "I think as we live in this country you'll find a lot of people like that, but we're especially proud of our employees from Water, Gas and Light as to what he did in this particular case."

Sellers was on his way back from Destin, Florida when he saw sparks flying from the vehicle.
