Tift County -  A Turner County jail inmate, being driven back from a Tifton doctor's appointment, worked his way out of his handcuffs and attacked the deputy and escaped.

It happened on Highway 41 north of Tifton Thursday morning.

The deputy was not seriously injured and caught up with the inmate.

The escapee is back in custody in Turner County.
