ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Some of Albany's bravest got a big thank you Tuesday night.

Lieutenant Bruce Bennett was named Albany Firefighter of the Year at the city commission meeting.

Bennett along with Lieutenant Wesley Wells, firefighter Brian Hopkins and firefighter Ryan Stewart were honored for their bravery during an August 8th fire on 8th Avenue.

Three of the men rescued a man trapped inside the burning home. Wells assisted the victim with oxygen until EMS arrived.

A civilian was also honored at the meeting. In April, Water Gas and Light employee Mitchell Sellars rescued a driver from a burning vehicle on 8 Mile Road and extinguished the flames with his jacket.
