ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Demolition crews were busy at MCLB Albany tearing down the base's Bachelor Enlisted Quarters building.
Commander Officer Col. Terry Williams took a swipe at the building and his persistence paid off, eventually bringing down a rather stubborn staircase on the building.
It's not his first try at demolition work, the Colonel has plenty of experience although it was six years ago. He says tearing the building down will save money in the long run.
"With the new facility it's also more energy efficient and that will cut down on costs saving us dollars in places we can use in other areas to support our Marines. It's a great deal for a number of reasons," said Col. Terry Williams, MCLB Albany Commanding Officer.
A ground breaking for new Bachelor Enlisted Quarters will be held later this week.
Eventually other buildings near the demolition site currently being used as temporary offices will also be demolished and the sites turned into parking lots.
