Perdue introduces new education legislation

February 18, 2003

Albany- Perdue introduced legislation that would give the state's school systems more flexibility by allowing more control over money, curriculum, and class size.

Perdue says it eliminates Barnes one-size-fits-all approach to education reform.

"We're gonna set standards. As schools meet those achievement standards our flexibility will be given more to get the job done," he says.

Perdue's plan will also allow middle schools to determine how much time they want to spend on core instruction. Barnes' plan required an extra 30 minutes a day for core instruction.
