ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Hundreds of people were thinking pink to encourage women to be more pro-active when it comes to their health.

Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital hosted its annual Women's Health Conference on Saturday.

Free cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes screenings were provided.

There were also physician-led workshops and cooking demonstrations to encourage healthier lifestyles.

"It's just important for not just women but for men too to be proactive about our health, we have a lot of chronic diseases in Southwest Georgia we have problems with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and so we try to address all those things and help people become proactive about their health," said Patricia Swain, Outreach Coordinator.

Phoebe partnered with the American Cancer Society, 100 Black Men and other organizations, to inform women about breast cancer and other diseases.
