ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Southwest Georgia Therapeutic Riding Center hosted its annual Derby Day fundraiser Friday night at Hunny Pot Stables in Lee County. Some of the money raised will pay to take children and adults with disabilities to the state Special Olympics equestrian competition in Perry next month.

Organizers were pleased with the turnout and especially with a $2,000 check from LaGrange College in Albany. "This has been really good," Center Director Tara Okon said. "We're doing great tonight. I'm thrilled, I couldn't believe the donations LaGrange had gotten together for us and then they gave us a big check so that was an amazing accomplishment."

The fundraiser included a stick horse race. Dawn Hobby and the WALB Most Wanted Mustang represented the station well. She didn't win the race, but she did collect a lot of money from people eager to see her run.
