ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Gang Task Force reported that they have identified seven new gangs forming in the last month.

The gang unit identified the new gangs by graffiti, like some on a burned out house in the woods off Moultrie Road and street intelligence. Investigators say most of the gangs are very young people, ranging from as young as 9, to 18.

"They are hybrid gangs, which are homegrown gangs," said Captain Mack Green of the Albany Police Gang Task Unit. "They are dangerous, they are very dangerous. We don't take anything like that for granted. We don't take that lightly. We treat them just like we treat the national gangs like the Crips, or the Bloods, Black Gangsta Disciples."

Captain Green said they have identified 27 gangs, and estimate there are thousands of gang members in Albany.
