VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - It has probably seemed like two years since the Valdosta High Wildcats have played a game.

It in fact was two weeks since the Wildcats were beaten soundly by rival Lowndes in the Winnersville Classic.

And three days after that game, Valdosta High coach Rick Tomberlin learned he was going to be fired at the end of the season.

Despite losing three of their last four games, Valdosta can make the state playoffs by winning their final three games and having Warner Robins lose two of their final three against a schedule that includes Lowndes and Northside.

Coach Tomberlin says despite all the adversity his players have hung together and are ready for Friday's game at Coffee High.

Rick Tomberlin said. "We are all hurting a little bit. We still have got a little void in our chest a little bit. They want to do well. Our coaches have really coached hard. I think we will give it a great effort and we will try real hard.

Valdosta High plays at Coffee with an 8:00 p.m. kickoff in Douglas.
