Albany - Merck Chemical gave eleven local charities a special Valentine's Day gift today.  $74,000 worth of gifts, to be exact.

Charities receiving gifts included Albany Advocacy Resource Center, Albany Civil Rights Museum at Old Mt. Zion Church, Albany Museum of Art, Albany State University and Alzheimer's Association of Southwest Georgia.

The American Cancer Society,  Girls, Inc., Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful, March of Dimes, Southeast Dougherty Dixie Youth Baseball League and Semper Fidelis Nursery School also received gifts.

The donations were made possible by the Merck Company Foundation as well as local donations.
