Albany -- Advanced technology in the concrete industry has come to South Georgia. AAA Concrete Products now has the first plastic mixer drum truck in the area.

The drum holding the concrete is made of a composite plastic, instead of old style steel. Made in Australia, the plastic drum is two thousand pounds lighter, so it can haul more concrete per load.

AAA Concrete Vice President of Plant Operations said "It should make a big difference. Because we will spend less time on cleaning them out. The concrete is not supposed to stick to it. Be a lot better on maintenance, it should save a lot of money on it."

The new plastic drum costs 12-thousand dollars more than the traditional steel model, but it should last three times longer and be more efficient.
