ALBANY, GA (WALB) - There's good economic news for a change. The Dow Jones industrial average closed above the 10,000 mark Wednesday for the first time in more than a year.
Experts credit good earning reports from Intel and JP Morgan Chase and Company for the positive push. It could be a sign that the economy is recovering.
Local economists and financial planners say the positive numbers are good news but there's still work to do to keep things moving in the right direction.
"This is a good sign long-term but this doesn't mean they're going to start hiring people in large numbers next month. It's going to be a while before we see the employment picture get better," said Darton College Economist Aaron Johnson.
"I'm still not getting too happy because you still have some risks out there in the market and that's to be expected given what the economy has been through," said Financial Planner Sammy Smith, Jr.
The Dow hit a 12-year low below 7,000 points back in March.
