ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany minister was indicted on arson charges Wednesday afternoon.

45 year old Reverend Joseph Howard is charged with hiring someone to set fire to his church so he could collect insurance money.

The Metropolitan Baptist Church on West Gordon Avenue burned December 31, 2007.

The Church was is foreclosure and was about to be auctioned when it burned. Curtis Jones and Vincent Jackson have admitted setting the fire and say Howard hired them to do it.

Dougherty Chief Asst. D.A. Christopher Cohilas said "The Grand Jury has indicted him for being a part of the planning process in this particular case. Hiring and encouraging two other individuals to light this fire."

Howard is still the Senior Pastor at the church.
