ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Symphony Orchestra gets a major shot in the arm to help it continue to provide its popular Peppermint Pops concert for free.

The Albany Chamber Foundation today presented a $10,000 check to the Symphony to help pay for the December 12th performances of Peppermint Pops, now in its 17th year.

This year, the event will move from the Civic Center to the Municipal Auditorium, but two performances will be held. One at 2:30 PM, another at 7:30PM.

Symphony Director Claire Fox Hillard said,  "We give this to the community so we do have the expenses of the orchestra and the auditorium, etc and so it takes sponsorship and so we're very proud that the chamber would come forward and continue providing this for the community."

Foundation President Jay Smith said, "We are very selectively managing the money and looking for opportunities that we can impact the biggest amount of folks by helping provide events that might not happen without that kind of money available."

Admission to either Peppermint Pops show is free, but you are encouraged to bring a canned good and you must get a ticket for admission. You can pick those up at the Arts council or the Chamber.

You can also purchase tickets for a cash drawing. The money from that will go to help replenish the money for the Chamber Foundation.
