Election process begins

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Absentee voting started Monday for municipal elections around the state. In Albany, things started off slow. Only six people had voted by three o'clock Monday afternoon.

There's only one contested race on the ballot. Christopher Pike is running against Arthur Williams for the Ward Three city commission seat.

Commissioner Morris Gurr is not seeking re-election. A little more than 5,000people are registered to vote in that ward, and the elections supervisor hopes most of them will cast ballots.

"It gives the voters an option,"  said Elections Supervisor Ginger Nickerson. "It gives them a chance to chose when they can come out, whether they want to come out and do it early, whether they want to come out on election day, it gives them an option."

Only Ward three precincts will be open on election day, November 3rd. Ward two and Ward five commissioners Dorothy Hubbard and Bob Langstaff are running unopposed.
