ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Get ready for civic duty in  Albany. Early voting begins Monday throughout Georgia. WALB caught up with one candidate who's running for Albany's Ward 3 commission seat.

Christopher Pike says he wants to bring more residential housing downtown. He says doing that will bring more people and more shops to the area.

Pike showed WALB the "harlem District" on South Jackson. He's says fixing up that part of town will create safer neighborhoods and help stop gang violence.

"Whether it be in the Harlem District or our downtown area, those areas really need revitalization, which should help stop a lot of crime once you have safe neighborhoods and people who are really committed," Pike commented.

Pike is running against Arthur Williams for the Ward 3 seat. We tried contacting Williams for this story, but phone calls weren't returned. People can vote early at the government building on 222 Pine Avenue in Downtown Albany. Voting lasts through October 30th.
