ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Many organizations are in need of financial help these days. The Red Cross is one of them.

Organizers are hoping to raise some money with the Octoberfest fundraiser. Hundreds of people showed up to the fundraiser Saturday evening at Thronateeska Heritage Plaza.

Organizers say donations are down this year and they're hoping the event will bring in more money for the local chapter.

"It benefits us because, as the Red Cross, we receive no federal funding," said Mari Wright, director of the Southwest Georgia Red Cross. "Everything we do is through donations, so when we have a fundraiser, it helps us so much because we don't get any federal funding."

More than 300 tickets were sold for the fundraiser. All money raised will benefit the Red Cross of Southwest Georgia.
