Postal services are swamped with overseas mail

February 13, 2003

Valdosta - As more troops deploy to the Middle East, postal services are being flooded with mail.

Mailboxes Etc. in Valdosta says their business has doubled since September 11th. It takes about seven to 14 days to arrive overseas, but people must take a few extra steps when preparing their packages.

"Be prepared to fill out a customs list detailing everything that's inside, don't pack anything perishable or breakable," said Chris Jester, Mailboxes Etc. Manager.

Postage on mail shipped to a military base overseas costs the same as mailing a package locally.
