BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - A gubernatorial candidate from north Georgia campaigned in deep south Georgia Friday.

Congressman Nathan Deal from Gainesville met with local officials and voters at the Charter House Inn in Bainbridge.

The Republican says his experience sets him apart in the crowded race.

"Having served in the state senate for 12 years, having being the highest elected position there, and now having served in congress. And of course many of the issues we face at the state level do overlap into the federal level, and understanding those issues and how to deal with them," said Rep. Nathan Deal, (R) Gubernatorial Candidate.

Deal says his main focus will be on lowering the unemployment rate and attracting new types of jobs.

He also says he's afraid the country is moving toward socialized medicine that will jeopardize private insurance and negatively affect people who already have a healthcare plan.
