Jones County ends Lee County's region title streak

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -   Jones County comes back to beat Lee County in two games to win the 1-AAAA region softball title Thursday night in Thomaston.

After beating Thomas County Central 3-1 in the third place game,  the Greyhounds from Gray took advantage of poor Lee County defense to beat the Lady Trojans 6-3.

That set up a final game for the region title that Jones County won 3-2.

The loss ends a streak of five straight region titles for the Lady Trojans.

Lee County is 24-3 and will host the #3 team from region 4-AAAA in the first round of the GHSA state tournament next week.

Thomas County Central is on the road.

In Cordele,  Houston County beat Lowndes 11-2 to win the 1-AAAAA region softball title.

Lowndes beat Northside-Warner Robins 2-1 to reach the championship game.

In 1-AAA, Perry shut out Worth County 3-0 in a regular season game.

The Lady Panthers victory gives them the 1-AAA title with a 13-1 record.

Worth County is 12-2 in the region and will host Woodland in the AAA state tournament on Tuesday in Sylvester.

In the GISA, Sherwood Christian tuned up for the AA state tournament with a 13-1 win over Crisp Academy in five innings Thursday.

The Lady Eagles head to Dublin and open with Strong Rock in the GISA AA state tournament on Monday.

Crisp Academy will host David Emanuel in the first round of the Class A state tournament on Monday in Cordele.
