THOMASTON, GA (WALB) - The Lee County softball team opened the 1-AAAA tournament with two shutouts wins Tuesday at the UJpson-Lee softball complex in Thomaston.
Lee County beat Hardaway 3-0 and then blanked Harris County 6-0.
The two wins assure the Lady Trojans will finish in the top four in the region tournament and clinches a berth in the GHSA state softball tournament.
Lee County wants to win a sixth straight region title.
They will play Jones County Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Thomaston with the winner advancing to Thursday's region championship game in the double elimination tournament.
Jones County defeated Thomas County Central 2-0 in the other winner's bracket game.
Earlier on Tuesday, Thomas County Central beat Upson-Lee 3-2.
Bainbridge lost to Harris County 18-1 but eliminated Hardaway 7-6.
Jones County, the #1 seed in the other sub-region, beat Americus-Sumter 8-0 in five innings.
Upson-Lee eliminated Americus-Sumter 3-0.
Wednesday schedule starts with Bainbridge playing Thomas County Central and Upson-Lee playing Harris County.
The winners will qualify for state tournament berths.
Lee County and Jones County have already qualified for the GHSA softball tournament.
