ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The city of Albany is developing its own small business program. The Department of community and economic development is taking on the responsibility of forming a small business procurement program. It's to replace a program that recently dissolved which focused on minorities for participation. This program will instead help small businesses and should spur economic growth and job creation by providing contract jobs with the city of Albany. "Get a genuine leg up without discriminating against anybody. Without leaving out the white guys, the black guys, the Asians or Hispanics. This is why this is such an outstanding program." Commissioners Jon Howard and Bob Langstaff voted against the program. Langstaff said he voted that way because he belives a local preference policy in the program could cost the city too much money.
