ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany city commissioner wants more thorough background checks for city employees. A background check on now fired downtown manager Don Buie failed to reveal he had a criminal past.

Now, commissioner Bob Langstaff wants to make sure the city finds out each state a potential employee has lived in so they can do a background check in each state to find any criminal history.

He said, "Well, we've got to make sure we're keeping up with industry standards and doing the right thing in those regards so that we're only hiring the best employees for the jobs."

The city manager says he has those guidelines in place but will take a look at other options.
