(Columbus-AP) -- Cagle's Incorporated is cutting 550 jobs at its Pine Mountain Valley plant near Columbus. The company blamed the cuts on continued depressed commodity prices. The cuts take effect April 25th.

The Atlanta-based poultry company's Pine Mountain Valley plant produces commodity boneless poultry. Cagle's says the wholesale boiler prices have been the slowest of all commodities to improve.

The company also said it is reviewing other plans to mix the offerings produced at the plant, which will have 600 employees after the layoffs.

The company also has plants in Camilla, Perry, and Collinsville, Alabama.
