CUTHBERT - The investigation continues into the apparent suicide of a Georgia State Patrol Sergeant.  The coroner is awaiting results from the crime lab before he makes an official determination.

Robert Bonner was found dead in his yard in Randolph County last Wednesday. Just that morning, he had been given early disability retirement from his job as State Patrol Post commander in Perry. That retirement would become effective March 1.

We've since learned that Bonner and his wife were the targets of a federal investigation into missing county money. The information on the federal investigation came from prosecutors and not the GBI.

Bonner is survived by his wife, the county clerk for Randolph County, and at least one son who is a trooper in Cuthbert.
