ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Hundreds of South Georgians volunteered to help their community Friday in the Annual Day of Caring.

Several hundred Marines and civilian Marine Employees from the Logistics Command at the Albany Marine Corps Base spent the day helping others.

Many of them painted and cleaned up at the Thronateeska Heritage Museum downtown.

Several civilian employees sang for residents at Palmyra Nursing Home, spreading some cheer and smiles.

"This is just an opportunity for us to share with the community some of our time and talents, and hopefully make an impact,"  said Brig. General James Kessler, Commanding General Logistics Command.

This is the third year that Marine Base personnel have volunteered for the United Way's Day of Caring events.
