The Blazers committed four turnovers in the loss which drops them to 2-3 and 1-2 in the Gulf South Conference.
Delta State jumped out to a 14-0 lead on Garrett DeWitt 49 yard touchdown pass to Eldred King and a six-year touchdown run by Trevar Deed.
In the second quarter, Justin Halas intercepted Kellen Lewis and returned for the third Statesmen touchdown of the game.
Valdosta State got on the board with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Lewis to R.J. Bastone.
Delta though got that score back with a 45-yard touchdown run from Trevar Deed and a 28-7 lead.
VSU closed out the scoring in the second half with Lewis throwing his second touchdown pass of the game this one to Kody Case.
The touchdown and two field goal from Justin Kraemer cut the Delta State lead to 28-20 at half.
The two teams exchanged field goals in the third quarter before the Blazers got a drive going thanks to a run by Kellen Lewis to the Statesmen 20 yard line.
On third and goal, Ronnye Nelson was stripped of the football and Delta State's Eljae Faoagali recovered with over six minutes to play.
Delta State was able to run out the clock for their second conference win of the season.
Valdosta State quarterback Kellen Lewis was 34-56 for 316 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions and a first quarter fumble.
Lewis also rushed for 113 yards.
Valdosta State is back at home next Saturday to play Henderson State.
