Payments for peanuts

February 10, 2003

TIFTON - Georgia Peanut farmers are finally seeing some benefits from the 2002 Farm Bill. They started getting checks last week. The counter cyclical payments are supposed to bridge the gap between the target price of peanuts and what farmers are actually getting.

This is the second round of payments, but will make a much bigger impact because now the checks our twice as big, $72.80 per ton.
