Chief John Proctor told Dougherty Rotarians that the one million dollars spent on the Gang Unit was a good investment by city officials.
Proctor said the Gang Unit has made close to 300 arrests for gang participation crimes in the less than one year they have been organized. "They have pretty much broken one of the major gangs that is a nationally connected gang. That's the Black Gangsta Disciples. That is pretty much broken with the head here, " Proctor said.
Proctor said the Gang Unit is working to crippled two other major gangs financially, but he said the Gang Unit still needs the community's help.
He said that people must get involved, keeping watch on their neighborhoods and reporting gang activity.
