ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Many people wouldn't put the two words together, but one Albany middle school is proving math plus fun equals success.

It was Math Family Fun Night at Merry Acres Middle School Tuesday night. Parents and their kids participated in a variety of math-filled events including "Are You Smarter Than a 6th Grader?", math bingo and a math relay in the gymnasium.

Teachers say the activities prove that math can be fun and it helps increase student achievement with parental involvement.

"A lot of people do not like math. We want to show that math is fun and also expose parents to the way things are now. It's not like it was when we were in school. It's not all paper and pencil anymore. It's a lot of fun," said Merry Acres Math Coach Tracy Stolze.

Parents may want to brush up on their math. Teachers say students were consistently the winners.

Merry Acres has more fun nights planned for other subjects including Language Arts and Science.
