VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -  Valdosta State running back Ronnye Nelson has made the New York Times on Tuesday.

The newspaper is doing a major story on Division II athletics and the big changes that are being proposed.

As part of the story, the paper selected several athletes who passed up Division I opportunities to play at the division two level.

The former Dougherty High quarterback was one of the athletes the paper talked to and to go with the article they decided to include his photo.

The print edition hit the streets Tuesday.

The humble Nelson considers a big honor for his team and school.

Ronnye Nelson said. "It is very exciting. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Being way down in Georgia and you are getting recognition in New York. It is kind of big to me."

Valdosta State hopes to make big news when they play at Delta State on Thursday night.
