ALBANY, GA (WALB) - While gas prices are going down, people will  have to pay more for another mode of travel. Several airlines have announced a new surcharge this week that will affect anyone who plans to travel during the holiday season.

Delta, U.S. Airways, Northwest, and American Airlines will add the $10 surcharge for most flights at the end of November.  The charge also applies for the Sunday after Thanksgiving, January 3rd and 4th.

Southwest Georgia Regional Airport's Director, Yvette Aehle said this is the first time she's seen airlines pack on surcharges for the holidays.

"I'm sure it's frustrating to people, which is a reason our numbers are down."

Aehle said airline sales are down 15 to 20 percent this year compared to last year. Airlines also encourage people to travel during other times besides holidays.
