About the only thing Valdosta State head coach Chris Hatcher knows how to lose is defensive coordinators.
For the third straight year, Hatcher will have to find someone else to run the Black Swarm defense.
Kevin Shirley is leaving Valdosta State to become the secondary coach at Alabama-Birmingham.
Shirley came to VSU from Vestavia Hills High School in Birmingham.
In his one and only season leading the Valdosta State defense, the Blazers were second in the nation in D-II in stopping the run and 12th in scoring defense.
Valdosta State was in the top five nationally before their 31-24 loss to Grand Valley State in the D-II championship game.
Will Muschamp was the Blazers defensive coordinator in Hatchers first season only to leave for LSU where he now has the same job and Kirby Smart left after the 2001 season to become a graduate assistant at Florida State.
