LEARY, GA (WALB) - Bullet proof glass and quick-thinking tellers thwarted a South Georgia bank robbery.

A man wearing a bandana tried to hold up the High Trust Bank in Leary just before 2 Friday afternoon. He pulled a gun on tellers and told them to give him all the money.

The tellers were protected by bullet proof glass so they dove to the floor. That was enough to send him running out the door.

"We have witnesses who say he had been driving around town prior to this in a red or maroon Ford Taurus.  We do not have a direction of travel before he left the bank," said Leary Police Chief Tom Knighton.

A police lookout cautioned that he may have been headed toward Dawson on Highway 55. People should keep their eyes peeled for that car and if you have information, call the Calhoun County Sheriff's office at 229-849-2555.
