ALBANY, GA (WALB) - As a treat for getting a prestigious blue ribbon award at their school, students at Alice Coachman Elementary in Albany enjoyed some Blue Bell Ice Cream Friday.
The school is one of only 12 in the state named as a National Blue Ribbon School. Only about 300 in the country received the title. That's why Blue Bell stepped in to provide the Friday lunchtime dessert, to show just how proud of the students they are.
Third grader C'airah Tate said, "Our school is a Blue Ribbon School." "do you know what that means?" "we was one of the best schools." "and for being one of the best, what did you get today?" "ice cream." "and how was it?" "it's good."
Principal Pat Victor said, "What a nice treat to have Blue Bell Ice Cream to go along with that award. I'm just so proud of the students. I'm proud of the staff. I'm proud of the parents."
Blue Ribbon Schools are either academically superior or have had dramatic gains in student achievement to high levels.
