ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A longtime Albany Housing Authority employee is suspended after he was arrested on the job this morning for an incident unrelated to work.

Fifty-eight year old Leonard Lawson was arrested around 9:30 at the housing authority office on Cherry Street and charged with one count of child molestation. Dougherty County Police say the incident involved a 15 year old female family member. The molestation happened during a first time meeting between the two in July. The girl was initially hesitant to tell her mother about the crime.

"An unrelated incident brought this out of the girl, she had been wanting to tell her mother about it but an unrelated minor incident caused the girl to break down and tell the mother," said Captain Craig Dodd, Dougherty County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators worry as a housing authority painter and maintenance man, Lawson may have come in contact with other children who might also be victims. They're asking anyone who may have had similar circumstances with Lawson to contact the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office. Lawson will remain on suspension until the case is resolved.
