ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Special teams play leads Cook High to a 27-14 win over Albany High in the 1-AA opener for both teams.
Armad Turner returned the opening kickoff to the Albany High 20 yard line.
Turner scored on a three yard touchdown run three plays later to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead.
Turner scored his second touchdown on a seven-yard run in the second quarter to extend the Cook advantage to 14 points.
Albany High got on the scoreboard late in the first half.
Emmanul Byrd threw a 46-yard pass to Barry Diamond who made the catch at the Hornet three-yard line.
Byrd scored on a two yard run and the Indians trailed at halftime 14-6.
Byrd threw a touchdown pass to Brandon Johnson in the third quarter to pull Albany High to within six points at 20-14.
Cook's Ernest Williams returned the ensuing kick for the Hornets final score of the game.
Cook is 2-2 and at home next week against Fitzgerald.
Albany High drops to 0-4 and the Indians are at Berrien next week.
