Waste water discharges will mean fines

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - If you improperly discharge waste water from your home in Lowndes County, you'll be fined.

State and local laws require all grey water be discharged through septic tanks. But some people add second drainage lines to handle sink, and bath water. And that's against the law.

"Little do they know that the chemicals in dish water and detergent, you know, gets into our ecosystem and it's bad for our streams,"  said Lowndes Co. Stormwater Inspector Dan Johnson.

You have five days to correct the runoff and after that, you'll be fined $2,500 a day.
