ASU Reserve called to active duty

February 6, 2003

The Albany State women's basketball team is about to lose one of their key reserves.

Freshman Kasheia Jones from Talbotton is leaving the team to report for active duty with her U.S.Army Reserve unit in Alabama.

Before leaving, her teammates threw a surprise goine away party.  KiKi as she is known to her teammates, joined the Reserves last summer and is a member of the 206th Transportation company in Opelika, Alabama.

Jones has been expecting the call-up to active duty and she hopes to be back at school sometime in the next year and so does her coach Robert Skinner.

Coach Skinner said "We kind of figured she was going to (have to go).  She had mentioned to us earlier in the year that it may happen.  Now that Kasheia has been deployed, we are kind of saddened about it and I guees we are happy about in a way because it is something she has been looking forward to."

Kasheia Jones averaged just less than three points a game as a reserve for the Lady Rams.

Their first game without her is Saturday night against Benedict College at the HPER Gym.
