VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Moody Air force Base remembered troops who were captured and those still missing in action today as part of National POW/MIA recognition day.

Retired 1st Lieutenant Lee James was shot down over Germany during World War II.

He was on his ninth mission as a B-17 Co-pilot. He was held in a German Stalag for eight months. James spoke about his time in captivity.

"Many , many, many of them had it a lot worse," said James. "They were beat, legs broken, stabbed."

Following the ceremony, Moody AFB also celebrated the United States Air Force's 62nd Birthday.
