Notorious ATM bandits strike again

ALBANY,  GA (WALB) -  Two men pulled up to a convenience store on Highway 319 in a pickup truck, Thursday night in Thomasville, shattered a window, threw a chain around the money machine, and drove off.

This is the fourth ATM snatch and grab like this we've covered since June. We know there have been others in Tallahassee. Now many people want to know what it's going to take to catch these crooks.

It was a loud day inside Suzie Q's convenience store.

"I was wondering if there was a remodeling project going on," said David Baxley.

Oh there was remodeling going on alright, it was the owners only choice after what happened early Friday morning.

Two men pulled up in what investigators believe is a 2001 Maroon Dodge Pickup truck, shattered the glass, lassoed a rope around the ATM, dragged it outside, loaded it up, and drove off.

"It's made them a drive through window," said Baxley.

If the sight looks familiar that's because it is. Over the past couple of months, the ATM bandits have hit Grady county, Thomas county twice now, and Mitchell county.

Every time they use the same tactic, and once again, they leave a little richer.

"It's not right, people should find something else to do besides stuff like this," said Willie Mitchell.

"They'll get caught sooner or later, you can run but you can't hide," said Baxley.

That may be true, but so far the two men you're looking at have been elusive.

Now the question is, where will they strike next? Investigators in Thomas, Grady, and Mitchell counties can't confirm that the two ATM bandits in last night's theft are the same ones responsible for the other ATM thefts. But as you saw, they all went down the exact same way.

If you have any information, call the Thomas county Sheriff's office at 229-225-3315.
